Not real Happy from Chesapeake Bay of Virginia
The Happy Troller is not user friendly. If the unit is in the up position, not trolling, it will slip into the down position, trolling position, all by itself. Prior to moving, it has to be checked. If it isn't, then you run the risk of having the forward motion of the boat bend the trolling plate it. Second, if it is in the trolling position, it is a bear to get it back into the traveling position, up. Either you have to pull the cord and advance the engine throttle at the same time to get it up; or, raise the engine and hook the hooked end of you paddle over the plate and pull it up. Third, it was intended for lake use more than saltwater use with tide movement. Using it in the trolling position, makes the boat harder to steer. Thus, the wind and or tide could slam you into vertical members of bridges causing significant damage. In saltwater, it would best be used to troll across the tide action or in slack water. All in all it is a tool where you must adjudicate its use.
